Ekiti PWDs protest over alleged failure to fulfil employment slots

Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Ekiti State on Monday staged a protest at the Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti over what they described as the state government’s failure to fulfil its promise of providing them with 30 employment opportunities.

The protesters, comprising members of the blind and other disability groups, expressed displeasure that only six persons had reportedly been employed out of the 30 slots allegedly allocated to PWDs by the government.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, the Chairman of the Nigerian Association of the Blind in Ekiti State, Tope Ariyo, said they had repeatedly engaged government officials over the matter without receiving any concrete response.

Ariyo said the group had earlier met with the former Director-General of the Bureau of Community Communications, Mary Oso Omotosho, and also engaged the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Stephen Aribasoye, but their concerns had yet to receive the desired attention.
