Police Debunk Alleged Kidnap of AAC Presidential Candidate Sowore in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has debunked reports alleging that the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Mr Omoyele Sowore, was kidnapped by armed thugs in Ado-Ekiti.

The Command described the reports circulating on social media as misleading, clarifying that Sowore was not kidnapped but was involved in an altercation with some individuals at a restaurant around the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 30, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, said the Police were alerted immediately after the incident and operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene to rescue him.

The statement disclosed that Sowore sustained a minor injury during the incident and was receiving medical attention at the Police Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.

It added that the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, had ordered a discreet investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the altercation, identify those involved and ensure that anyone found culpable was brought to justice.

The Command urged members of the public to remain calm and disregard reports of an alleged kidnapping, while warning against the circulation of unverified information capable of creating unnecessary panic and tension.

It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, irrespective of political affiliation, status or background, and assured residents of its determination to maintain law and order.
