The Unifiers Club, Iyin-Ekiti, has donated educational materials to over 250 primary and secondary school pupils in the community as part of efforts to promote education and support the academic development of children, particularly those from vulnerable backgrounds.
The initiative, which underscored the importance of education as a legacy for future generations, attracted pupils, teachers, parents, community leaders, traditional chiefs and other stakeholders to the official presentation and distribution of the materials.
The President of Unifiers Club, Iyin-Ekiti, Mr Abayomi Ogundipe, popularly known as Agarawu, alongside members of the club’s executive committee, warmly received dignitaries and other guests at the event.
Speaking at the occasion, Ogundipe explained that the initiative was conceived by members of the club in recognition of the critical role education plays in shaping the future of children and building a progressive society.
He said the gesture was part of the club’s commitment to community development and its determination to contribute meaningfully to the educational advancement of pupils in Iyin-Ekiti.
The educational materials distributed included hundreds of exercise books, writing materials, mathematical sets, calculators and other essential learning items.
The project was funded by members of Unifiers Club, Iyin-Ekiti, with support from the Senator representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, popularly known as MOB.
Dignitaries at the event, including the Chairman of Araromi Local Council Development Area (LCDA), traditional chiefs and other community stakeholders, commended the club for the initiative, describing it as laudable, impactful and unprecedented in its contribution to the educational welfare of pupils in the community.
The beneficiaries, who received the materials from dignitaries on behalf of the club, expressed excitement and appreciation for the gesture.
Teachers and representatives of the schools from which the beneficiaries were selected also applauded the club for its thoughtfulness, noting that the intervention would ease some of the educational challenges confronting pupils, particularly those from less-privileged backgrounds.
They described the donation as a timely contribution that would encourage the children to take their studies more seriously and improve their academic performance.
Members of the club expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the initiative, describing it as another milestone in their efforts to promote the welfare and development of Iyin-Ekiti.
The club, according to its leadership, is a community- and humanity-centred organisation committed to promoting unity, development and the collective progress of the people, irrespective of political affiliations.
It pledged to sustain its humanitarian efforts by organising more programmes aimed at improving the lives of residents, including children, youths, adults, men and women, in the coming months and years.
A memorable moment at the event was the reunion of a retired teacher, now a traditional chief in Iyin-Ekiti, with one of his former secondary school students, who has since become a mathematics teacher. The encounter highlighted the enduring impact of education and the lasting relationships between teachers and their former students.
