INTERNATIONAL GIRL-CHILD DAY: Ekiti LG Supervisor For Environment, Akinlabi Advocates Compulsory Education For Girl-Child At Grassroots

…commends Fayemi’s Free Policy On Education

As Nigeria joined the rest in the world to mark this year international Day for the Girl-child, the Supervisor for environment in Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Hon. Tunde Akinkabi has made case for compulsory education of girl-child especially those at the grassroot.

Hon. Akinlabi in a press statement issued from his office in Ido-Ekiti and made available to newsmen explained that the global statistics has shown that the girl child is at a disadvantage educationally with Africa having the worst case worldwide, hence the need for collective responsibility to change that mantra as soon as possible.

According to him, when the girl child is adequately giving the necessary education from the beginning, such a child stands empowered for life, and can possibly compete with her contemporaries anywhere in the world, which he added would further uplift Nigeria among comity of nations around the world.

The Local Government official who used the opportunity to congratulate Girl-child and the entire womenfolk in Ekiti State, Nigeria and beyond for witnessing yet another international day also task relevant stakeholders as well as government at all levels on the need to come to the rescue of the girl-child by empowering her with basic education which he said prepares her for a better future she deserved, like her counterparts in other climes.

He lauded the outgoing Governor of Ekiti State, Dr John Kayode Fayemi for providing an enabling environment for education which he said the Governor demonstrated through the establishment of new schools to cushion the effect of long distance to schools students in remote areas confronted with, as well as renovation of the existing ones.

Akinlabi who expressed the optimism that the incoming administration of the Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji will build on the legacy projects of the Fayemi’s led administration in the State, urged Ekiti people to continued supporting and pray for the administration to enable it pilot the affairs of the State to a safety port.

The International Day of the Girl Child is commemorated on October the eleventh every year for empowering girls and amplifying their voices around the globe, as the day also recognises the rights of the girl child and the challenges faced by them across the world.
