The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has commenced the payment of June and July upkeep allowances to student beneficiaries across the country.
The development was confirmed by the National Association of Nigerian Students, while several beneficiaries also shared screenshots on X showing successful payment alerts.
In a statement released on Friday, NANS National President, Akinteye Babatunde, announced that the disbursement had begun, assuring students that all outstanding backlogs would be cleared. He said the payment of June and July NELFUND upkeep allowances had officially commenced, adding that as he had earlier assured students, every outstanding backlog would be paid, and reaffirming the association’s commitment to ensuring that no eligible Nigerian student was left behind.
Akinteye urged beneficiaries who were yet to receive their allowances not to panic, explaining that the payments were being made in batches. He called on all beneficiaries to remain patient as payments were processed, urging those who had not yet received theirs to stay calm since disbursements were being made in batches. He assured students that NANS remained committed to standing firmly in defence of their welfare and interests, closing the statement with the rallying cry, “Aluta Continua!”
The announcement comes amid weeks of complaints from students over delays in the payment of monthly upkeep allowances under the Federal Government’s student loan scheme.
Following the announcement, several students took to X to post screenshots of credit alerts, confirming receipt of their June and July allowances.
The upkeep allowance is part of the NELFUND student loan programme, which provides monthly financial support to eligible students of tertiary institutions in addition to tuition payments made directly to institutions.
