Ekiti Police Foil Armed Robbery, Rescue Two Kidnap Victims, Arrest Two Suspects

Operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command have foiled an armed robbery operation along the Ikole–Oye Road, rescued two abducted victims unharmed, arrested two suspects and recovered stolen truck tyres in an early morning raid on Monday, June 29, 2026.

According to a press release issued by the Command on Tuesday, the incident occurred at about 3:00 a.m. when a gang of three armed hoodlums attacked a faulty petrol tanker.

The assailants reportedly robbed the driver and his motor boy of their mobile phones before dragging both men into a nearby bush and tying them to a tree.

The hoodlums later returned to the tanker, removed six truck tyres and loaded them into an ash-coloured Ford minibus.

Police said the suspects intended to flee towards Kogi State with the stolen items before they were intercepted.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol intercepted the vehicle on the highway.

Two suspects, identified as Ezekiel Balogun and Usman Wada, both of Kabba in Kogi State, were arrested at the scene.

All six stolen tyres were recovered as one suspect escaped and remains at large.

Following their arrest, the suspects led police operatives to the bush where the abducted driver and his motor boy were being held. Both victims were rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their families.

The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal, said the case has been transferred to the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, for discreet investigation. He added that efforts have been intensified to track and arrest the fleeing suspect.

CP Adegoroye reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state. He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid police operations. The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, ANIPR, on June 30, 2026.
