…lament Abduction of Teachers, Students
Teachers and students in secondary schools across Ekiti State on Wednesday suspended academic activities to participate in a nationwide prayer session aimed at seeking divine intervention against the rising wave of insecurity and the abduction of teachers and learners across Nigeria.
The exercise, organised by the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), saw schools temporarily halt classroom activities as teachers and students gathered to pray for the safe release of abducted victims and the restoration of security in the country.
It was gathered that the prayer exercise was organised in compliance with a directive issued by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), under the leadership of Comrade Sola Adigun which declared June 24, 2026, a National Day of Prayers in secondary schools nationwide.
At the C.A.C. Comprehensive High School, Ado-Ekiti, the Vice Principal (Administration), Mr. Olanrewaju K.J., described the exercise as timely, noting that the increasing cases of kidnapping across the country had created fear among teachers and students.
He said the prayer session was organised to seek divine intervention for the speedy release of teachers and students currently being held captive by abductors in Oyo State and other part of the country.
Also speaking, the Principal of David Oke Model College, Ado-Ekiti, Mrs. Kikelomo Olaiya, prayed for the safe release of abducted victims across Nigeria and called for an end to the insecurity affecting schools and communities.
She explained that quality teaching and learning could only be achieved in a safe and conducive environment.
Similarly, the Principal of Anglican High School, Mr. Akinbode Oke, said members of staff had come together to intercede for kidnap victims through the prayer session organised by ASUSS.
He also appealed to the government to intensify efforts toward improving security in schools and protecting both teachers and learners from criminal attacks.
Some teachers who participated in the programme expressed hope that the prayers would complement ongoing efforts by government and security agencies to rescue the abducted teachers and students.
