FRSC Ekiti Joins Global Ride for Health as Ekiti Sector Commander Urges Public to Embrace Cycling

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, RS 8.2 Ekiti State Sector Command on Wednesday joined the rest of the world to mark the 8th United Nations World Bicycle Day with a road ride through Ado Ekiti metropolis.

Flagging off the ride, Sector Commander Corps Commander Sanya Adeoye, FCIPurS, MICLT, said the June 3 event is “significantly important” for public health and wellbeing. This year’s theme, “Cycling for a Sustainable Future”, he noted, highlights cycling’s role in cutting carbon emissions, reducing traffic congestion, and making transportation more equitable and accessible.

“These benefits should be enjoyed by all Nigerians by embracing cycling,” Adeoye told officers and Special Marshals at the command’s base before the team departed.

The riders moved through Ajebamidele, Ijigbo and Ajilosun areas of Ado Ekiti, sensitizing road users on safety for cyclists and the health gains of cycling.

The UN declared June 3 as World Bicycle Day at its 72nd meeting in September 2017 to recognize cycling as a simple, affordable and sustainable mode of transport.
