Oluga Marks Ash Wednesday, Urges Christians to Embrace Repentance and Pray for Nigeria

A member of the National Assembly Service Commission representing the South-West, Hon. Taiwo Oluga, has called on Christians in Osun State and across Nigeria to embrace the solemn lessons of Ash Wednesday and use the Lenten season to pray for peace, unity and good governance in the country.

Oluga, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency, made the call in a statement issued to commemorate Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the 40-day Lenten season in the Christian calendar.

She described Ash Wednesday as a significant moment of reflection, repentance and spiritual renewal, urging Christians to draw closer to God through prayer, fasting and acts of charity.

“Ash Wednesday reminds us of our humanity and our total dependence on God. It is a call to repentance, humility and renewed commitment to righteous living,” Oluga said.

She encouraged Christians to use the Lenten period to intercede for Nigeria and Osun State, especially at a time when the nation is in need of stability and collective responsibility.

“I urge our Christian brothers and sisters to dedicate this sacred season to fervent prayers for peace, unity and progress in Nigeria and Osun State. We must seek God’s guidance for our leaders and for the future of our dear state,” she stated.

Oluga also called for prayers for the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration and for peaceful preparations ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State.

“As we journey through Lent, let us pray for wisdom and strength for those in leadership, and for peaceful, credible elections in our state. May God guide our decisions and grant us leaders who will serve with integrity and compassion,” she added.

She further urged Christians to allow the lessons of Lent — sacrifice, self-discipline and love — to reflect in their daily conduct beyond the season.

“Lent is not merely a ritual; it is a spiritual exercise that should transform our character. Let us show greater love to one another, support the vulnerable and work together for the development of our communities,” Oluga said.

The former lawmaker wished Christians a meaningful Lenten season and prayed that the period would usher in renewed hope and divine blessings for Osun State and Nigeria as a whole.
