A secondary school student has assumed the role of governor of Lagos State for one day in a symbolic leadership exercise aimed at rewarding academic excellence and encouraging youth participation in governance.
The development followed the student’s emergence as the overall winner of the 21st Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition, a feat that earned her the rare opportunity to experience the responsibilities of the state’s top executive office.
In a video circulating online, the student was seen taking charge at the Lagos House, where she was received by top government officials and briefly stepped into the role traditionally occupied by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
During the one-day exercise, the student was accompanied by members of her ceremonial executive team, including a one-day deputy governor and a one-day secretary to the state government. She also attended briefings and interacted with senior officials on governance, leadership, and public service.
The initiative is part of efforts to motivate students to pursue excellence in education while exposing them to leadership responsibilities at an early stage. It also serves as a platform to inspire young people to aspire to public service and active citizenship.
The video of the event has since attracted widespread attention on social media, with many Nigerians praising the initiative as a positive step toward youth inclusion and leadership development.
