COMMUNITY HEALTH PRACTITIONERS APPEAL TO EKITI PARENTS TO ALLOW THEIR CHILDREN RECEIVE MEASLES & RUBELLA VACCINES

Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria, Ekiti State Chapter, has called on Ekiti residents to protect themselves by making their children available to receive the Measles and Rubella vaccines.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Association, Comrade Temitope Olatunbosun, and the Secretary, Comrade Cornelius Makanjuola.

According to the statement, Rubella, also known as German measles, is highly contagious but can be prevented through the vaccine.

It highlighted some of the symptoms of Measles and Rubella to include rash, running nose, cough, red and watery eyes, just to mention but a few.

The statement explains that the disease affects the foetus and causes brain damage, blindness, deafness, and a hole in the heart.

It reads: “The government and partners are offering free vaccination of children in the age bracket of 9 months to 14 years. The vaccination starts on Tuesday, January 27th to February 5th, 2026. There will be vaccination points in all Primary Health Care facilities and other strategic places within our communities, schools, and places of worship.”

The statement urges school owners and heads of various schools in the state, including ministers of God, to inform their pupils/students and congregations of the vaccine introduction, which is very safe.

Health officials are also enjoined to be professional and operate diligently.
