In the spirit of Christmas, the Oke-Emo Community in Ilawe Ekiti, Ekiti Southwest Local Government, has distributed food items to over 500 residents of the five quarters that constitute the community.
The targeted beneficiaries were mainly the aged, persons with disabilities, widows, and widowers.
At the ceremony held in Ilawe Ekiti, the Elemo of Oke-Emo, High Chief Gbenga Agbona, confirmed that the gifts worth millions of naira were procured through donations from sons and daughters of the community, both home and abroad.
According to High Chief Agbona, the initiative, which is a regular practice in the community, was aimed at assisting vulnerable residents to enjoy their Christmas and to also give them a sense of belonging.
He appreciated Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his investment in education, health, and infrastructure but called for more support for the community.
He also appreciated indigenes of the community who have contributed to the gesture and many other developmental projects embarked upon by the community.
The beneficiaries, who could not hide their feelings, were seen singing and dancing to show gratitude for the support, which they described as a huge relief considering the current economic reality.
Earlier, the Chairman, Oke-Emo Development Council, Sir Lawrence Egunjobi, explained that the gifts were distributed without preference or prejudice.
