EKSG commends Media professionals in Ekiti

…Says government activities enjoy fair coverage

Ekiti State Government has commended media organisations and practitioners in the state for supporting the administration of Dr Kayode Fayemi and maintaining high level of professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The State Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Barr Akinbowale Omole gave the commendation during a press briefing heralding the activities marking the Fayemi administration’s end- of- tenure and for inauguration ceremonies for the incoming administration of Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO).

Omole noted that the public goodwill enjoyed by the administration was hinged on the wide coverage given to developmental projects, policies and other economic and social strides achieved by the administration.

He expressed gratitude to the media professionals in the state for sticking to the ethics that guide the conducts of their activities by reflecting the true pictures of happenings in the state.

According to him, the media professionals provided platform for Fayemi’s administration to fulfil its commitment to open governance, accountability and robust communication geared towards keeping the public aware of its various programmes and activities.

The Commissioner, also appealed that the media professionals should extend similar support to the incoming administration to enable it fulfilled its communication plans in keeping the people of the state abreast of various opportunities at their disposal.

“I must thank and commend our colleagues of the Fourth Estate of the Realm, for the level of professionalism and independence you have demonstrated during this administration, on this beat. The overwhelming goodwill and support we have enjoyed so far have been a result of the extensive coverage you have given to this governance strides, and your commitment to staying above board in adhering to the ethos of the noble profession.

“As a government, we are grateful that the media have supported us by accurately reporting the developments in the state and reflecting the true pictures at all times. We are grateful that you stick to the ethics of your profession, in these days of fake news and the penchant for some mischievous persons to deliberately mislead the public with false and distorted news. You are most appreciated.

“As an administration that is committed to open governance and robust policy communications, you have matched our quest for keeping the public informed, with the speed and accuracy of reportage, and tracked our journey with fair analyses and commentaries. We are, indeed, very grateful and cannot thank you enough.”

In his comment, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalist, NUJ, Ekiti State chapter, Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela commended the Fayemi administration for creating an enabling environment for journalists and other media professionals to perform their professional duty without any fear.

Ojomoyela said he is hopeful that the incoming Oyebanji – led administration would emulate the Fayemi administration and sustain the conducive atmosphere already created for journalists and other professionals to carry out their duties without any form of molestation.
