ANAN, EKSU CHAPTER MARKS MAIDEN ACCOUNTANT DAY IN GRAND STYLE

….as expert cautions accountants against unwholesome practices

It was a celebration galore at the premises of the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, as members of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti chapter, converged to mark the first edition of their day.

The event, which took place at the Senior Staff Cooperative Hall, EKSU, Ado-Ekiti, attracted top university officials, professional accountants, traditional rulers, and stakeholders from within and outside the institution.

Among those present were the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Joseph Ayodele; Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Professor Williams Oluwole Adebayo, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Development, Professor Oluwafemi Oke; Registrar, Mr. Ife Oluwole; Bursar, Mrs. Janet Oreoluwa Ojobanikan; and the Onísàn of Ìsàn-Ekiti, His Royal Highness Dr. Gabriel Ayodele Adejuwon.

Speaking on the topic “Sustainability Reporting and Transparency,” the guest lecturer, a Senior Lecturer in Accounting at Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, Professor Ezekiel Oluwagbemiga Oyerogba, cautioned accountants against unwholesome practices, urging them to uphold discipline and professionalism.

According to him, accountants have crucial roles to play in the sustainability of any organisation, urging them to leverage technology, including artificial intelligence, to improve data quality and credibility.

Speaking on the theme of the event, Chairman of ANAN, EKSU Chapter, Mr. Babatunde Emmanuel Adeoye, described accountants as gatekeepers in any organisation, urging members to operate with utmost integrity.

In her goodwill message, the ANAN Ekiti State Chairman, Mrs. Olufunlayo Babalola, urged members to remain steadfast in upholding the ethics of the profession.

She stressed that integrity and honesty are non-negotiable values, warning that unethical accounting practices have serious consequences for stakeholders, government, and society at large.

In his remark, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, commended ANAN, saying, “The association promotes accountability within the university system and assured members of management’s support.” He also stated that EKSU operates strictly within established rules and regulations to ensure due process, transparency, and responsible financial management, noting that the university currently owes no salary arrears.

The event featured the presentation of Awards of Excellence to distinguished professionals, including Dr. Babatunde Abioye Apata, FCNA; Dr. William Adebayo Olukayode; Professor Kayode Arogbundade; Mrs. Janet Ojobanikan, Hon. Michael Ogungbemi, and other notable dignitaries, in recognition of their contributions to ethical leadership, accounting practice, and institutional development.
