...Calls for Stronger Synergy
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bayelsa State Council, Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha has called for synergy between journalists and the Nigerian Police Force.
Comrade Yemoleigha made the call when Executive Members of the State Council of NUJ paid a familiarization visit to the Assistant Inspector General, AIG, Zone Sixteen, Dr. Adebola Hamzat in his office in Yenagoa.
Describing the NUJ and Police Force as partners in the progress of society, the NUJ Chairman noted that the synergy will bring a model between the two institutions.
“We must deepen the working relationship between Journalists and the Police especially in information gathering and intelligence sharing to educate and safeguard lives and property of Bayelsans and Nigerians”
“While Journalists perform the role of correlation of the environment and investigative journalism, it can be more successful and benefit society more through multi-institutional collaboration”, Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha said.
Responding, AIG Zone 16, Dr. Hamzat appreciated the NUJ Chairman and his team for the visit, saying, men and officers of the force are always ready for the synergy.
The AIG commended the role of the conventional media in molding public opinion and society generally but admonished bloggers and social media influencers to be professional in their reportage.
He however assured that, the police are ready to avail themselves whenever they are called upon in line with their mandate.
