ROADSIDE DELIVERY: NANNM SEEKS REWARD FOR NURSE

The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Ekiti State Council has called on the state government to reward a nurse, Mrs Blessing Oladipo who delivered a patient of her baby boy by the roadside, in Ijesa Isu Ekiti, Ikole local Government.

Leadership of the Association made the request during a visit to the baby, the mother and the nurse at the General Hospital Ijesa Isu.

Nurse Blessing Oladipo who has now become a celebrity after the news went viral was said to have rushed from the hospital to assist the patient at a road side where she was groaning due to contraction.

Speaking with newsmen at the hospital, the Acting Chairman of the  National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Ekiti State Council, Mrs. Omotayo Patricia Akinola affirmed that such gesture would propel the nurse to do better and also encourage diligence and hard work among health practitioners.

She commended the nurse for making the association proud and urged her to do more.

Mrs Patricia Akinola used the avenue to call on Ekiti State government to also address the various challenges affecting smooth  operations in the hospital among which are,  poor facilities, lack of access roads and security.

In his contribution, the State Secretary of NANNM Ekiti State, Com. Fii Tornubari Samuel said the heroic action of Nurse Oladipo Blessing was a reflection of how nurses and midwives in Nigeria go the extra mile to meet the health needs of Nigerians despite the poor working conditions and poor remuneration.

Com. Nr. Fii went on to call on the Government of Ekiti state to employ more Nurses and midwives, renovate and equip the Hospitals and Primary Healthcare Centres in the state, implement 100% CONHESS for Primary Healthcare Nurses, domesticate the newly approved hazard allowance for health workers and the newly approved entry point for graduate nurses.

The NANNM delegation also included the State Financial Secretary, Com. Nr. Adekunle Oni and State Auditor I, Com. Omotoso Oladipo.

In an interview, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Cletus Erinjobi expressed happiness over the development and corroborated the leadership of National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives on the need to equip the hospital with modern facilities.

Earlier, in an interview, the concerned nurse, Blessing Oladipo thanked God for the success recorded saying she is fulfilled.

She called for improved awareness on the need for women to patronize health facilities noting that the concerned patient did not register for antenatal.

According to her, the patient was just lucky saying there could have been complications.

In an interview, the mother of the baby, Queen Ajayi who was filled with joy  appreciated the nurses for saving her life and that of the baby.
