The lawmaker representing Moba Constituency 1 in the Ekiti State House of Assembly Hon. Abimbola Solanke has allayed the fear of the youths in her constituency on the danger inherent with the popular disease known as Cervical Cancer.
Hon Solanke made this known at a 1 day sensitization and awareness program held in Moba Grammar School, Otun Ekiti for the students in Six major Secondary Schools in Moba Constituency 1 to commemorate 101 years of existence of Innerwheel Club District 913 Nigeria, which has earmarked every month of January as Cancer awareness month in the year.
The lawmaker, in her address said the month of January is a significant month declared by the United Nations as Cervical Cancer awareness month while 10th January is noted for International Innerwheel day, she appreciated the people of Moba Constituency 1 for their consistent support even before her emergence as lawmaker representing the Constituent in the Ekiti State House of Assembly adding that she would continue to impact their lives positively.
The former Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals and the Chairman House Committee on Health and Human Services commended Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for the on going lives touching projects in Moba Constituency 1 and seek for more support from the people of the Constituents for the Governor till 2030,
However, the lawmaker and the District Chairman Innerwheel Club District 913 Nigeria, highlighted reasons why she decided to organize the sensitization program for the students in the area between Age 9 to 14 years, so that they can have early knowledge and detection of the symptoms of the virus, in order to be able to niche it at the bud before it get out of hand.
According to the resource person, who did justice to the topic, “Sensitization and creation of Awareness on Prevention of Cervical Cancer” the Deputy Director, Primary Health Care Department in Moba Local Government and a Family planning expert, Mrs Funmilayo Oso described cervical Cancer as an abnormal growth in the Cervix
Mrs Oso reiterated that men were not excluded from the virus, she sensitised both males and females students on the existence of the virus and stressed the need for them to prevent it as early as possible.
Therefore, she attributed major cause of Cervical Cancer to Human Papilloma Virus and equally encouraged the students to engage in Family planning in their future instead of involving themselves in abortion which can endanger their lives.
The three in one event, had in attendance Teachers and Students from Moba Grammar School Otun Ekiti, Eyemojo Comprehensive High School, Osan Ekiti. Epe Community High School, Epe Ekiti. Saliu Adeoti Memorial High School, Otun Ekiti and Amazing Grace School, Otun Ekiti.
Hon Solanke also used the occasion to distribute sanitary pads, over the counter medicines and as well donated first aids boxes stocked with first aids facility to the Schools in the Constituents for the benefit of the Teachers and Students and to prevent health hazard which can be used to solve minor health challenges confronting the schools.
Meanwhile, the host Principal, the Principal of Moba Grammar School, Mr Olugbenga Jolasanmi commended Hon.Solanke for organizing such an educative talks for the students in the area, he described the gesture as laudable, significant that will go a long way in the lives of the students.
Similarly, another Teacher from Osun Grammar School, Mr Omobusola Matthew and two of the benefitting students Ayodele Jesurewa and Bamigboye Goodness expressed their gratitude on the initiative of the lawmaker and promised to bring to bear what they have gained in the sensitization and awareness program organized by the lawmaker in their future endeavors.
