It was an atmosphere of jubilation and joy as leadership of Oke-Emo community in Ilawe Ekiti, Ekiti South West Local Government Area of Ekiti State distributed rice and cash worth millions of Naira to over one hundred aged people in the community.
The beneficiaries who are majorly widows, widowers and less privileged were carefully selected by Heads of the five quarters that made up the community, namely Ilero, Oke-lemo Idofin, Ijimo and Oke-Gbede.
Addressing journalists during the distribution, the Elemo of Oke-Emo community, High Chief Gbenga Agbona affirmed that the gesture was to support the less privileged in the community in order not for them to celebrate the Christmas and New Year in hunger considering the current economic realities.
He explained that the food items were procured through the financial donations by some kind hearted sons and daughters of the community both within and outside the country who were contacted by the elders of Oke Emo through her Development Council.
Presenting the gifts to the beneficiaries, a former aide to former Governor Kayode Fayemi, Mrs. Margaret Fagboyo, now the Director Of Development, African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD)
congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to celebrate the yuletide with modesty.
Earlier, the Chairman, Oke-Emo Development Council, Sir Lawrence Egunjobi affirmed that the community is blessed with kind hearted children who are always willing to contribute to her development and well-being of the people.
He urged the beneficiaries to continue to pray to God to lift up more sons and daughters of the community to positions of authorities where they would be able to do more for the people.
