Ekiti Renaissance Group Commemorates World Sight Day, Commends Oyebanji’s Health Sector Achievements

In commemoration of World Sight Day, the Ekiti Renaissance Group (ERG) has commended Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for his initiatives in the state’s health sector, describing them as “life-changing” for residents.

In a press statement signed by its Convener, Engr. Kolade Omotayo, the group highlighted the distribution of over 46,000 free eyeglasses under the Effective Spectacle Coverage Initiative Nigeria (ESCIN), Jigi Bola 2.0, a federal program targeting residents aged 40 and above.

According to the statement, screenings and eyeglass distributions are being carried out in 77 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across all 16 local government areas, with trained health personnel equipped with screening kits to attend to patients.

The statement also applauded the state government for recruiting 250 health workers, including nurses, midwives, and community health officers, to boost service delivery in PHCs. Additionally, 103 health centres are currently being renovated and equipped to enhance healthcare provision across the state.

“Governor Oyebanji has moved beyond promises to deliver verifiable results. From eyeglass distribution to PHC upgrades and maternal health improvements, these interventions are genuinely transforming lives,” the statement added.

The group urged residents to make use of the upgraded facilities, attend regular eye screenings, and called on traditional, religious, and community leaders to support health education and awareness campaigns. “We encourage all hands to be on deck in supporting Governor Oyebanji’s efforts. God bless Ekiti State,” the statement concluded.
