EKSU PRODUCES FIRST SET OF NURSES

…inducts 54 as professional Nurses

…as Miss Ogunbunmi Abisola emerges overall best graduate

The first set of 54 Nursing Graduands of Ekiti State University, EKSU, Ado Ekiti, EKSU, comprising 7 males and 47 Females have been inducted into the Nursing profession.

Speaking during the maiden induction and oath taking ceremony held in the university, Vice Chancellor EKSU, Prof. Babatola Ayodele charged the inductees to be good ambassadors of EKSU and always remember to contribute to the development of their alma-mata.

The VC said that the graduands performed excellently in their professional examinations, while Miss Ogunbunmi Abisola emmeged the Best Graduating Student out of the 54 students.

The VC seized the opportunity to call on the alumni body, public sprited individuals and organisations to come to the aid of the University College of Medicine by providing infrastructure to the Nursing department.

He therefore thanked NMCN for increasing the admission quota for the University BNSc programme, saying such would allow the University to admit more students into the department.

On her own, the Induction Lecturer, Prof. Adekemi Olowokere from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in her lecture Titled “The Economic Power of Nursing Care: Estimating The Value Of Nursing Care In National Development” noted that Nurses contribute to economic and national development through the services they provide and roles played.

Prof. Olowokere said that there is need for government and other relevant stakeholders to recognise economic values embedded in nursing care which enhances patient safety and care quality.

The Don charged the newly inducted Nurses to heal the heart, mind, soul and body of patients, noting that it would make the patients contribute meaningfully towards the economic growth of the nation.

Taking the oath of the Nursing profession which was administered by the Registrar of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, represented by Mrs.Modupe Christiana Ayoola, the newly inducted Nurses promised to uphold the tenets of the profession and obey the privacy of their patients.

They also pledged to give adequate care for their patients as they appreciated God for His mercy and protection during their stay on campus as well thanked their parents and lecturers for their contributions to their success.

The Commisioner for Health and Human Services, Ekiti State, Dr Oyebanji Filani represented by a Director in the Ministry urged the Nurses to remember the core values of the profession and put in practice, encouraging them to be bold enough to face the challenges in the labour market.

Earlier, the Provost, Ekiti State University, College of Medicine, Prof. Oladimeji Ajayi appreciated Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanj for creating enabling environment for teaching and learning in the university to make the programme of the Graduands hitch free.

In her address, the Best Graduating Student, Nurse Ogunbunmi Abisola appreciated their parents, lecturers and management of EKSU for their support in giving them platform and enablement to achieve their goal of becoming qualified Nurses.

At the ceremony which was well attended by important dignitaries, parents of the Graduands and well wishers, awards were presented to some outstanding newly inducted Nurses in Academic, leadership and character as well for the pioneer staff of the Department of Nursing, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti.
