…as PLSI Holds One-Day Stakeholders Engagement on Climate Change

Some stakeholders in Ekiti State on Tuesday frowned against the improper disposal of waste products in the State which has impacted negatively on the environment.
They stated this in Ado-Ekiti at the One-Day Stakeholders Engagement on Climate Adaptation and Environmental Accountability in Ekiti State organized by Paradigm Leadership Support Initiative.
According to Kolade Kolawole, Programs Officer with PLSI, State actors and CSOs are collaborating towards sustainable development and environmental sustainability in the State.
He added that the government should collaborate more with the CSOs to be able to implement some of these projects in order to have a focused impacts in the lives of the citizens.
“We agreed that the CSOs also have a very important role to play in relaying the needs of the citizens to the government and at the same time, to use information properly for effective advocacies.”
Also, Ifelola Olugbenga from the office of the State Auditor General hailed the group for deeming it necessary to organize the event noting that it would go a long way clear the air on various areas of concerns regarding the activities of the State government.
Similarly, Timothy Taiwo, an Assistant Communications Associate for PLSI charged residents of the State to be more conscious on how wastes are being disposed.
He also advised the government to ensure that there are waste disposal bins at populous places across the State, both in rural and urban communities in order to effectively address the impacts of climate change, reduce flooding and every other environmental impacts that are caused by climate change.
He went further to identify the various projects carried out by the organization towards climate change and its socio-environmental impacts.
“At Paradigm Leadership Support Initiative, there are different thematic areas that we work on, and one of them is environment and energy accountability, in ensuring that the impact of climate change is addressed across Nigerian communities, across states and this is just for Ekiti State.
“The objectives is just that citizens live happily and there are no dangers of climate change to enable citizens to have safe living.”
On her part, Mopelola Akinwunmi, State Coordinator for Young African Leaders Initiative tasked members of the public to prioritize their health by keeping their environment clean.
She called on the State government to proffer sustainable solution rather than providing temporary solutions to permanent problems as regards issues of climate change in the State.
