In Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Bournemouth, Manchester City ended their 32-game winning streak in the Premier League, and Liverpool overtook the English champions at the top of the standings. Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson gave the Cherries the first goal each before halftime, but Josko Gvardiol gave City a response.

Pep Guardiola’s team suffered several injuries during their midweek League Cup loss to Tottenham, which was their first defeat of the season in any competition. Before the game, Guardiola claimed that many of his players were playing through pain, but Bournemouth, who had just defeated Arsenal at home, added insult to injury.

The first goal came on minute nine when Semenyo spun onto a cross from Milos Kerkez. Shortly after the hour, Evanilson drove home another Kerkez delivery. Eight minutes from the end, City came alive thanks to a towering header from Gvardiol from Ilkay Gundogan’s cross.

Liverpool defeated Brighton 2-1 at Anfield after rallying from behind, and City now trails by two points. However, it was not as costly as it could have been because title rivals Arsenal also lost, 1-0, at Newcastle, resulting in their first league loss since December.
