Ekiti NUJ Demands Recruitment of More Professional Journalists, Procurement of Equipments For BSES

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti State Council, has demanded the recruitment of more staff and procurement of state-of-the-art equipments for the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State, BSES.

This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the October Congress of the Union on Wednesday, signed by its Secretary, O’Seun Ogunsakin, while the Communique Drafting Committee include; Abiodun Olofe, Chairman, Banke Fajuyi, Secretary and Ayodeji Adejumobi, Member.

According to the union, some staff of the Department of Newsroom have redeployed while some left the service for greener pasture, thus putting pressure on the remaining few staff who now work round the clock without time to rest and take care of their family.

The Congress equaly frowned at the exorbitant electricity bills by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, while calling on the relevant bodies to ameliorate the problem.

The Communique reads: “That Ekiti State Government should as a matter of urgency recruit more hands to ease the workload of the staff of the State-owned media station, Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State (BSES) and procure state-of-the-art equipment in the newsroom in order to make news production and editing easier.

“That the Federal Government should as a matter of urgency mobilize the contractor handling the newly awarded Ado-Ikare road to site to ease the traffic gridlock caused by the dilapidated road which is now becoming a death trap for commuters.

“That Ekiti State Government should look into the outrageous and highly exorbitant bill by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) and the hike in house rent by the real Estate Agents in Ado-Ekiti, the State capital, as these have worsened the living conditions of citizens.

“That aggrieved members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) who are in court regarding the forthcoming National Delegate Conference should please withdraw their cases in the interest of peace and unity, and settle their grievances out of court.

“That the congress felicitates with the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji on the successes recorded by his administration in the last two years of his government; urging him not to relent in fulfilling his promises of shared promised agenda to Ekiti people.”
