Sudden Death: Ado Progressive Union Trains Ekiti Residents on Emergency Response

A group, Ado Ekiti Progressive Union, United Kingdom, has trained residents of Ekiti State on different ways to engage in emergency response to end sudden death.

Speaking at the seminar held at College of Nursing, Ado Ekiti on Thursday
A Consultant Cardiothoraxic Surgeon, Dr. David Idowu of EKSUTH used the opportunity to call on the public to work collectively in emergency situations to help save life and prevent sudden death.

Dr. Idowu disclosed that community empowerment is very essential as emergencies exceed the duty of health workers alone.

In his words, “Community empowerment is very important. Emergencies goes beyond the duty of health workers only, it has to be a collaborative approach.

“The health workers have their role to play, the individuals have their roles, community leaders, security agencies as well as the government have their roles.”

He stressed on the need to build emergency response system in the State as it will help in saving one in emergency situation.

Also, Ekiti State Commissioner for Health, Dr Oyebanji Filani represented by the General Manager Ekiti Health Insurance Scheme, Dr. Charles Doherty
commended the group and Association of Residents Doctor’s at EKSUTH for their support and dedication in ensuring the success of the programme.

He said, “The topic on building trust between first responders and the public as well as addressing challenges for emergency response is essential to creating a safe Ekiti State.” “Collaborative efforts like these are key to strengthening our health system and preparing for future emergencies.”

Also Speaking, President, Association of Resident Doctors , Ekiti State, Dr. Adeyemi Famous stated that the program is aimed to target the social cultural disposition of people towards emergency response, noting that some death could have been prevented if not for such behavior.

He therefore called on the public to take measures necessary in order to save victims in emergency situation.

in an interview, President of the Group, Prince Adeniran Adewumi said the seminar is aimed at highlighting the ways various stakeholders including; Police, Medical Experts, Community Leaders in the State can assist in emergency situations to reduce sudden death.

He regretted that people are not encouraged to help rescue members of the society in emergency situations, hence the need for awareness campaign. .
