The Oke-Emo Community, in Ilawe Ekiti, Ekiti Southwest Local Government, has distributed books and other learning materials worth about two million Naira to pupils and students of public Schools located within the community.
Speaking with journalists during the exercise, the Elemo of Oke-Emo quarters, Ilawe Ekiti, High Chief Gbenga Agbona affirmed that over six hundred students and pupils were captured in the gesture with a call on the beneficiaries to focus on their studies so as succeed in life.
According to him, the exercise was part of innovations by the Oke-Emo Development Council to make life better for people of the community adding that the resources used for the materials were contributions from well meaning sons and daughters.
Speaking at the programme, the Chairman, Oke-Emo Development Council, Sir Lawrence Egujobi noted that the council’s gesture is aimed at complementing government’s efforts in the educational sector adding that there are other
He also disclosed the council’s ongoing community development projects which include medical outreach, support for widows and the vulnerable, and installation of solar lighting in the community.
The Chairman revealed that the council has partnered Ekiti State Community and Social Development Agency, (EKCSDA) by raising counterpart funds to “renovate and build classrooms at L. A. and St. Patrick’s primary schools as well as in United High School, so as to provide a wholesome environment for learning.”
The Area Education Officer Ekiti Southwest, Ilawe, Dr James Abdul Baki, thanked the community for the gesture, saying it will enhance learning.
Benefiting schools are United High School, Corpus Christi College, Oniwe Comprehensive High School, Ilawe Grammar School, L.A. Pilot Nursery and Primary School, AUD Nursery and Primary School, St. Patrick Nursery and Primary School, Methodist Primary School, St. Peter Primary School, and St. James Primary School.
