Engage Young Professionals in construction sector …experts urge Ekiti Government

….as Young Quantity Surveyors Forum (YQSF) Ekiti State Chapter awards outstanding students in Ekiti

Young professionals in the construction sector in Ekiti State have appealed to Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to always engage their services in carrying out government projects both within and outside the state for effective service delivery.

This decision was one of the resolutions reached during a collaborative meeting of the young professionals in Ekiti called by the Young Quantity Surveyors Forum (YQSF), Ekiti State Chapter and held in Ado Ekiti.

Among the professionals involved in the collaboration are Young Quantity Surveyors, Land Surveyor, Architects, Engineers, and Estate Surveyors.

Addressing newsmen after the meeting, the Coordinator, Young Quantity Surveyors Forum (YQSF), Ekiti State Chapter QS Oguntade Opeyemi Joshua explained that there are numerous vibrant young professionals from across the state who have the expertise and skills to deliver quality work in line with specifications

According to him the collaboration between the young professionals demonstrates the growing spirit of unity and collaboration among young experts in the construction and design sectors.

The Forum coordinator described the initiative as “a strategic alignment of vision and purpose among the next generation of professionals.”

He noted that there was the urgent need for clients, stakeholders, and project sponsors to understand and respect the distinct roles of each professional discipline in the construction sector stating that early and inclusive engagement of all relevant professionals from a project’s inception leads to better planning, improved efficiency, reduced cost, and faster delivery.

The keynote address, by QS Ariyo Ebenezer Sunday, FNIQS, inspired participants to embrace professional risks, strive for excellence, and pursue ethical leadership.

The Chairperson of Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors Ekiti State Chapter, QS DR Comfort Olubunmi Ade-Ojo attested to the high level of diligence, professionalism and integrity among members urging government to partner them.

Meanwhile, in line with her commitment to capacity building, YQSF Ekiti organized a two-week Online Inter-Institutional Competition, involving students from Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI), Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti.

Participants were assigned real-world industry tasks, and their submissions were assessed based on creativity, technical soundness, and problem-solving skills.

The winners are:

🥈2nd Place – Okunola Aminat Oluwatosin ( BOUSETI, Ikere Ekiti)

🥉3rd Place – Oyim Success Chukwuemeka (BOUSETI, Ikere Ekiti)

This competition was widely praised for encouraging innovation, critical thinking, and professional readiness among students preparing to enter the built environment workforce.

The students were given financial support.
