Death Toll from India Plane Crash Hits 265

Indian Deputy Commissioner of Police Kanan Desai has confirmed that 265 bodies have been recovered from the site of a catastrophic plane crash in Ahmedabad, India.

According to him, the development indicates that over 24 fatalities occurred on the ground.

A London-bound Air India jet had ploughed into a residential area, killing at least 265 people both on board and on the ground.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating as Flight 171, was carrying 242 passengers and crew when it crashed on Thursday.

Miraculously, one man survived the fiery wreck.

The rear section of the aircraft was left embedded in the second floor of a hostel housing medical staff, while the nose and landing gear struck a nearby canteen where students had been eating lunch, according to witnesses.

Authorities warned that the toll could rise as more remains are discovered.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited the crash site on Friday, called the disaster “heartbreaking beyond words” as he surveyed the devastation in the affected neighborhood.
