Federal and State governments have been advised to establish standard school farms in all secondary schools in the country to promote agriculture among the younger generations.
Also, agriculture science should be made compulsory for all students in junior classes in public and private secondary schools.
These and others formed part of recommendations of a professor of Vocational Agricultural Education in Ekiti State University, Remigius Oyebode Famiwole while delivering the 85th Inaugural lecture of the institution.
Professor Famiwole explained that such would arose the interest of younger generations to agriculture in future time as well as prevent shortage of food in the nation.
The Don emphasized the need for government to provide take-off grants for those that really show interest in Agriculture during school farming period, saying such would increase the number of educated farmers in the country.
Professor Famiwole, who used the forum to advocate seminar and workshop for teachers and students about the relevance of in-school farming programme, said it would expose them to modern way of farming.
In his submission during the inaugural lecture, the Vice Chancellor of EKSU, Prof. Ewdward Olanipekun commended the inaugural Lecturer for a good presentation and urged every Nigerian to embrace agriculture.
The Vice chancellor urged Nigerians and government to key into the recommendations of Professor Famiwole during the lecture to boost food production and stop hunger in the nation.
He therefore charged other scholars in the university to prepare to come and showcase what they have for the public during inaugural lectures.
