EKITI GOVERNMENT PROMISES CONSTANT ENGAGEMENTS WITH GRASSROOTS TO ASCERTAIN EXACT NEEDS

….as Office of Community Communications in partnership with Justice Development and Peace Initiatives and Ekiti Assembly hold special citizens engagement

Ekiti State Government through the House of Assembly and Office of the Community Communications has promised to ensure constant engagement with people at the grassroots so as to identify their major basic needs and priorities.

At a special Citizens Engagement programme, held at the Ekiti State House of Assembly, the Speakers, Rt Hon Adeoye Aribasoye, the Director General, Office of Community Communications, Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotosho and other cabinet members agreed that government does not need to work by its manifestos alone but sometimes take time to verify if the plans are truly what the people wanted.

The programme was facilitated by the
Office of Community Communications in partnership with Justice Development and Peace Initiatives and Ekiti State House of Assembly.

Rt. Honourable Aribasoye and Mrs Oso who spoke separately noted that the government of Biodun Oyebanji is a listening government which gives utmost priority to human capital and community development.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Youths Development, Adesola Gold said more initiatives would be adopted to shift the attention of youths from politics to meaningful ventures that could make them self sufficient and business leaders who can reshape the nation’s economy.

Some members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly and Council Chairmen who contributed commended the Office of Community Communications and the Justice Development and Peace Initiatives, Catholic Diocese of Ekiti, which championed the engagement describing the programme as timely.

In his contribution, the Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti State Council, Kayode Babatuyi suggested the need for political office holders to make themselves accessible to people at the grassroots so as to give them sense of belongings.

Babatuyi also suggested constant media engagements to enable journalists project government activities and pass the right information to members of the public.

Highlights of the engagement was the presentation of the report of the need assessment carried out by the Justice Development and Peace Initiatives, Catholic Diocese of Ekiti in partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists by the JDPI, Director, Reverend Father Emmanuel Akingbade.

In an interview, som members of the public and stakeholders who attended the programme attested to the quality leadership style of Governor Oyebanji and swift responses to state matters.
