Tinubu Orders Defence Chief to Curb Oil Theft in Niger Delta

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, to urgently address the issues of oil the ft and vandalism in the Niger Delta region. The Group Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, made this announcement on Tuesday.

Following a meeting with all security and intelligence agency heads at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, Kyari highlighted the national significance of combating oil the ft to boost the country’s oil production. He noted that oil the ft has become a critical issue that must be resolved to achieve economic stability.

Kyari said, “The President has instructed the CDS to take control of the crisis in the Niger Delta. Oil the ft and pipeline vandalism are national issues, and the President expects a resolution in the shortest possible time to restore national production to expected levels. Achieving economic stability is impossible without addressing these issues.”

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, assured that all acts of vandalism and criminal activities in the South-South region would be eliminated. He emphasized the long-standing nature of these issues and the need to put an end to them.

Musa said, “We promise Nigerians that the entire South-South will be cleared of any acts of vandalism or criminality. The President has mandated us to secure the region to enable the NNPC and others to improve production. We urge host communities to trust and support the security agencies.”

Musa acknowledged the importance of community cooperation and trust in addressing pipeline vandalism and its hazards. He assured that the security agencies’ operations would be harmonized to achieve the President’s directive, with noticeable results expected in the next two to three months.

Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, also emphasized the need for cooperation among all agencies and citizens to tackle the challenges of oil the ft and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta.

Egbetokun said, “We need the cooperation of all agencies and citizens to address these issues. In the days ahead, you will see results as we take every necessary step to curb oil the ft and vandalism.”

The meeting underscored the importance of coordinated e f forts to secure the region and restore oil production, ensuring economic stability for the country.
