Judiciary Scandal: Chief Magistrate, Senior Registrar bags suspension pending investigation

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has ordered Senior Registrar, Abdu Nasir and Chief Magistrate, Talatu Makama to suspend all responsibilities and report to the High Court Headquarter, following reports of suspected misconducts.

According to a statement issued by the JSC, Chief Magistrate Makama was discovered to have acted with judicial bias, illegally handled cases, and given orders to the police before she was formally assigned to them.

Her behaviour was deemed “despicable” by the commission, which removed her from the bench.

Senior Registrar Abdu Nasir of the High Court’s Appeals Department was found guilty of grave misconduct following a separate investigation. The investigation found that Nasir accepted funds intended for court documents into his personal account—an action that the commission considered to be extremely unethical.

In addition, the JSC examined Chief Magistrate Tijjani Saleh Minjibir’s case. After carefully considering the petitions concerning Minjibir’s behaviour, the committee concluded that his actions amounted to grave misconduct and judicial negligence.

He must stop all judicial operations during this time and report to the High Court headquarters in order to be posted again.

The commission took these steps at its 73rd meeting, where the JSC reaffirmed its dedication to upholding the judiciary’s accountability and integrity.
