EKITI GOVERNMENT DISTRIBUTES 20 THOUSAND BAGS OF RICE TO CITIZENS

…promises more to alleviate economic hardship

Ekiti State Government has distributed 20,000 bags of rice to its residents and 10,000 bags of maize to farmers.

Reporters gathered that each bag of the rice is 25 killogram.

Addressing the beneficiaries at the Government House, in Ado Ekiti, Governor Biodun Oyebanji identified the state’s collaborative efforts with the federal government in reducing the hardships caused in the country by the removal of fuel subsidies.

He emphasised that the distribution of food items is part of a short-term relief strategy.

The governor disclosed plans to engage with the private sector to transform the agricultural landscape, including the preparation of over 2,000 hectares of land to increase food production and supply in the state by next year.

Mr Oyebanji also urged Local Governments to align with the state’s agricultural initiatives towards addressing the soaring food costs and encouraged a return to farming practices.

Earlier, Chairman of Ekiti State Palliative Distribution Committee, and Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade who stated that the palliative was the fifth batch, said the grains would be distributed to the people through various community groups, associations, unions, 177 wards, and government departments.
