NBA IKERE-EKITI BRANCH COMMENCES 2024 LAW WEEK

…as Chairman, Afolayan extols role of lawyers in nation building

The Nigerian Bar Association NBA Ikere-Ekiti Branch has commenced its 2024 Law Week with the fifth Chief Wole Olanipekun public lecture.

Delivering the lecture at the Programme held at Chief Wole Olanipekun Bar Cente, Ikere Ekiti, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ondo State, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN emphasized that lawyers were the custodians of the rule of law, urging them to uphold the tenet of the profession.

He highlighted the crucial role of legal professionals in navigating legal frameworks, advocating for just policies, and defending the interests of farmers, producers, and consumers.

Dr. Ajulo further elaborated on the broader responsibilities of the legal profession in facilitating economic growth and stability.

He noted that lawyers were instrumental in commercial transactions, negotiating contracts, and advising businesses on regulatory compliance, especially within the agricultural and food industries.

Dr Ajulo further outlined how legal counsel can draft and interpret laws that protect small-scale farmers, provide legal support to agribusiness, advocate for investment in agricultural infrastructure, resolve supply chain disputes, and safeguard intellectual property rights of agricultural innovators.

Speaking at the programme, the Chairman, NBA, ikere Branch, Asiwaju Michael Afolayan noted that the Ikere-Ekiti branch played a crucial role in advancing the legal profession in Ekiti State with aims to foster interaction between lawyers and the public, addressed governance and social challenges,reinforced the NBA’s commitment to the rule of law and professional excellence

Asiwaju Afolayan stated that this year’s Law Week with the themed “Law, Justice, Economy and Food Security: The Role of Lawyers and Government,” would address Nigeria’s current challenges and highlights the role of lawyers in supporting government efforts.

The NBA Chairman commended the contributions of a legal icon, Chief Wole Olanipekun to legal profession in Nigeria, urging him to continue in such direction.

The programe which will continue on Wednesday at wole Olanipekun Bar centre, Ikere Ekiti with fourth Justice Micheal Ekundayo Ogundare Annual Publuc Lecture will also capture young lawyers’ hangout, a Black Tie Law Dinner and will be conclude with Thanksgiving Service on Sunday at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Ikere-Ekiti.
