“A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a petition filed by Phillips Shaibu, the former Deputy Governor of Edo State, seeking to nullify the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship primary held on February 22 in the state.”
Justice James Omotosho ruled on Monday, stating that as Shaibu did not fully participate in the primary and was not present at the venue on the day it was held, he lacked the legal standing to contest the results.
Omotosho also decided that Shaibu’s case was premature since he neglected to exhaust the PDP’s internal dispute resolution system before going to court.
The judge stressed that as a member of the party, Shaibu was required to follow its rules and regulations, which state that a disgruntled aspirant must first visit the party’s Appeal Committee before filing litigation.

He assured that there was sufficient evidence to support Ighodalo’s triumph in the primary.
