The Nassarawa State Commissioner for Health, Dr Gaza Gwamna has commended the UNICEF for supporting the proliferation of counterfeit medications in the state’s healthcare facilities.
The Commissioner revealed this recently in Lafia, the state capital, during an inspection of the multi-million-naira infrastructure improvements that the state government and UNICEF had undertaken at the Nasarawa State Drugs and Supplies Management Agency.
Before the project was put into service, Gwamna clarified that the examination of the NASDSMA’s continuing facility upgrades, including the warehouses, was done to make sure the contractor completed the work in accordance with the conditions of the contracts.
He said that the contractor’s work and materials were of the highest calibre in the nation’s North-Central Geopolitical Zone, expressing his delight with both.
Gwamna went on to say that the agency’s founding addressed the issue of high-quality, reasonably priced medications being scarce at all of the state’s public health facilities.
“And I can state clearly that with this huge investment in the infrastructure, and the ability to purchase drugs directly from the manufacturers, the era of supply of substandard and non-availability of drugs in our healthcare facilities is over.
“Because the agency also oversees it, drug costs in public facilities are now reasonable and consistent throughout the state.”
The commissioner continued, “At this time, we are also making the gift available to private hospitals in the state that are eager to do business with us.” Said.
While praising the contractor for adhering to the project specifications, Dr. Gaza Gwamna stated that providing high-quality healthcare services was one of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration’s top goals.
Thus, he gave everyone his word that the state administration would keep up its diligent efforts to meet the citizens’ health demands.
