The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Ekiti State Branch has called on the state governor, Biodun Oyebanji to engage the body in order to ascertain the accurate worths and values of government assets.
The immediate past chairman of the association, Dr Sunday Olajide stated this in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday while speaking with Roundoffnews.com on this year’s Valuation Day.
Speaking with journalists, he said the purpose of 2024 celebration themed “Importance of Assets Valuation in Financial Stability” is to sensitize the general public on asset valuation in making sound decisions towards reaching and sustaining financial stability for governments, organisations and individuals.
He said the association is the only recognized body that can evaluate the worth and value of government’s and individual’s property without any statistical dysfunction.
In his words, “The three tiers of government should involve our profession where we are necessary. The procurement act states that for any property to be exchanged and sold, the value must be known and the only profession that is recognised legally to do that is the estate valuers.
“Their property are supposed to be managed by Estate Surveyors. We are imploring the state government to patronise us and we promise to deliver diligently without any statistical chaos”.
Speaking further, Dr. Olajide attributed quackery, naira depreciation and professional negligence to the major challenges mitigating the body from performing its functions effectively.
He thereby called on uncertified individuals, parading themselves as Estate Surveyors and Valuers to steer clear and allow certified and recognized members to carry out their duties effortlessly.
On his part, the new chairman of the branch,
ESV Ekundayo Oluwasola, harped on active patronage from the state government, adding that the body is ready to work wish the government in professional ways.
