Ebube Offo, a 15-year-old secondary school student from Ezeagu local government area, tragically took his own life by drinking sniper insecticide.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, reportedly in response to his expulsion from Malex International School, located at No 2A, Niger Close Uwani Enugu.
Prior to his enrollment at Malex International School, Ebube had been expelled from Evangel Secondary School, Achara Layout Enugu, owned by the Assemblies of God Church Nigeria, during the second term of the 2024 academic session. Allegations of bad record from his former school prompted his expulsion from Malex School.
According to sources, the principal of Evangel school intervened upon learning of Ebube’s enrollment at Malex School, citing concerns about his behavior. This led to Ebube’s expulsion from Malex School without any opportunity for assessment.
The tragic loss of Ebube has left his family, including his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cosmos Offo, devastated and in shock. The circumstances surrounding his death highlight the urgent need for greater support and intervention for students facing challenges in the education system.
