Ekiti NLC Wants Fayemi to Intervene in FG, ASUU Impasse

The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, Ekiti State Council has appealed to the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi to use his influence as the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum to Intervene and resolve the ongoing impasse between the Federal Government and university workers.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities and other unions had embarked on strike for almost five months now with no end in sight.

Addressing journalists in Ado Ekiti, the NLC Chairman Comrade Kolapo Olatunde explained that the situation requires urgent steps to put an end to it because of its consequential effects on the nation’s economy, education sector and future of the students.

He urged Governor Fayemi to reach out to the President and the minister of labour so as to put heads together towards bringing the issue to a logical end.

Speaking on the solidarity protest held by NLC nationwide in support of university workers, Comrade Olatunde disclosed that the demonstration in Ekiti State was almost hijacked by some elements.

According to him, the concern elements succeeded in inciting some other members to attack the leadership of NLC and desecrate the office of the Chairman.

He said though he had forgiven those involved being a God fearing and respected leader, they would still be communicated on the position of the SAC on the matter.

Olatunde noted that he had briefed the National on the matter in line with the labour procedure.
