Ekiti Govt Takes Governance to Street, Acquaints Residents with Government’s programmes

The Ekiti state Government has taken to the streets to interact with the public as part of efforts to engage them on government’s policies and programmes and to get their feedback.

Speaking with reporters after the programme tagged “BAO Connect”, the Director-General, Office of Community Communications, Mary Omotosho said that the administration is concerned with grassroots governance.

According to her; “We understand Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s passion for the people at the grassroots, he has given us the mandate to ensure that every government policies and programmes are well communicated to the people at the grassroots and every opportunity in the government are well communicated.

“This is one of his initiative, and we call it BAO street connect because we cannot do it without carrying the people along.

“This is an opportunity to acquaint the people on the activities of the government, that is why this market (Okesha, Ado-Ekiti) is chosen. The plan is that, as we move on with this programme it’s going to be monthly, we are going to be having an online version of ‘BAO street connect’, we want to ensure we don’t leave anybody behind as far as democracy is concerned.

“So moving ahead, we will be coming with government information, government opportunities, we will be carrying along different palliatives different items, different information that will benefit the people.”

In a cross section with marketers, they commended the initiative, saying that they are concerned with government activities and policies, especially policies that will affect them, hence bringing information to them is considered paramount.
