Ekiti Kidnappings: Students’ Group Call For Urgent Action

A group, National Association of Universities Students’, Campus Monitoring Committee, NAUS CMS, Ekiti State chapter has called on the relevant authorities to take prompt action to resolve the issues of insecurity in Ekiti State.

A statement by the General Secretary and Representative of NAUS CMC Ekiti, Ogunleye Oluwatobi decried the unfortunate separate attacks in the state on Monday while calling for swift intervention.

According to Oluwatobi; “On behalf of the association, we extend our sincere commendation to the swift intervention of the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji in response to the recent distressing incidents in our community.

“However, the unfortunate kidnapping of six pupils, three teachers, and a driver from a school bus in Emure Ekiti demands our immediate attention as the safety, and protection of our pupils and students is our topmost priority as a student body regardless of the cadre and jurisdiction.

“It is also with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of two esteemed kings – the Olumojo Of Imojo, Oye local government area, and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, The narrow escape of the Alara of Ara Ekiti after the firing of several bullets by unknown gunmen as identified to be herdsmen underscores the urgency of the situation.

“Amidst the daunting challenges we face today, we urge the Governor and all concerned authorities to take prompt and resolute action. The safety and welfare of the individuals who have been kidnapped, as well as the wider community, are at stake and hang precariously in the balance. It is imperative that the authorities respond with urgency to this situation and ensure that the necessary measures are taken to secure the release of the kidnapped individuals and to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

“We urge for increased security measures, thorough investigations, and a collaborative effort to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“During these challenging times, our community is standing strong and united. We firmly believe that by coming together with collective determination, we can overcome any threats to our safety and security. It is our shared responsibility to work collaboratively and ensure a swift and effective resolution to this crisis. By supporting each other and taking necessary precautions, we can emerge from this situation stronger than ever before.”
