Tragic: Auto Crash Claims Five Lives along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

An auto crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has left five individuals dead and eight others injured.

ROUNDOFFNEWS gathered that, the incident occurred on Monday at 1:58 pm at Fidiwo on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, involving a Mazda bus with registration number EKY582 YE and a Mercedes Benz truck.

The crash was confirmed by Florence Okpe, Spokesperson for Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

According to Okpe, “the truck lost control after a tire burst, leading to the collision with the Mazda bus.

“Out of the 15 individuals involved in the accident, eight were male adults, and seven were female adults.

“The aftermath resulted in eight injuries—five male adults and three female adults—and five tragic fatalities, including four male adults and one female adult.” She said

Okpe highlighted the suspected causes of the fatal crash, to include the tire burst, excessive speed leading to the truck losing control, and the subsequent collision with the bus in motion.

Expressing condolences over the tragic event, CC Anthony Uga, the Sector Commander of FRSC Ogun Sector, urged motorists to prioritize tire maintenance and cautioned against using worn-out or expired tires.

The tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety measures and the need for vigilance on the part of drivers.
