FLAC, NICRAT, NCS PAY CONDOLENCE VISIT TO FAMILY OF LATE FORMER ONDO STATE GOVERNOR, AKEREDOLU

…advocate regular screening of prostate cancer for men above forty five years.

Nigerians, especially men above forty-five years of age have been advised to alway go for Prostate Cancer Screening to know their status.

Some members of Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) made the call during a condolence visit to the family of late former Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital.

One of them, representative of the First Ladies Against Cancer FLAC, Maryam Muktar who noted that the visit is to commiserate with the family of the late Governor.

Also, the Director – General of the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment NICRAT, represented by the Director of Research, Professor Sani Abubakar Malami noted that early treatment of Cancer will need to a better outcome.

In his submission, the President of Nigerian Cancer Society NCS, Dr. Adamu Alhassan Umar mentioned that the late Arakunrin Rotimi Akeledolu,SAN, CON was one of the supporters of NCS . He further mentioned that contributions of the Late former Governor to treatment of cancer patients and advocacy would forever be reminded.

Dr Alhassan also urged the state government to bring to limelight the unfulfilled vision of the late Governor to establish a comprehensive and State -of – Art Cancer Centre in Ondo State.

He finally encouraged Nigerians to embrace a culture of routine comprehensive medical check up at least once in a year including screening for common cancers such as breast, cervical and prostate cancers.

On his own, the Vice -President of the Nigerian Cancer Society; Dr. Abidemi Omonisi specifically thanked the late former Governor for supporting the establishment of Ondo Cancer Registry which is a Population Based Cancer Registry in Akure.

Speaking on behalf of the family members of the late Arakunrin Rotimi Akeledolu,SAN, CON, his wife, Mrs Betty Akeredolu thanked FLAC, NICRAT and NCS for the visit.

“We are very greatful for counting it worthy to pay us a visit at this trying period,

Mrs Akeredolu promised that the family would continue the various legacies of Aketi including is unalloyed commitment in supporting Cancer Advocacy, Registration, Research and Treatment in Nigeria.

Prayers were said by the Executive Director of End Cervical Cancer Nigeria Initiative ECCNI, Dr. Ishak Lawal for the repose of the soul of the late former Governor and family.
