Let Patriotism, Discipline Be Your Watchwords – NYSC Director, Corps Welfare Charges Ekiti Corps Members

As State Coordinator calls for construction of camp hall, clinic, others

The Director of Corps Welfare and Health Services Department, National Youth Services Corps (NYSC), NDHQ, Mr. Omotade Folorunso Benjamin, has called on 2023 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members deployed to Ekiti State to take patriotism, discipline and diligence as watchwords during the service year.

Mr. Omotade who made the call today during an on-the-job visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ise-Orun/Emure, Ekiti State, eulogised the Corps Members to see their call to serve as a call to add their quota to the development of Ekiti State.

He also said, “What I have witnessed this morning right from the quarter guard corresponds with our progressive standards and the update on daily activities we have been receiving from Ekiti in our headquarters.”, the Award-Winning Public Servant said.

The Director specifically referenced NYSC Ekiti State Coordinator, Alhaji Riko Abdullahi Shuiabu whom he said to have mentored as an emerging administrator years back. “I congratulate Mr. Riko for outstanding consistency; even when colleagues abandoned NYSC stations, he stayed behind in Osun State,” Mr. Omotade submitted.

Earlier, Alhaji Riko Abdullahi Shuiabu delivered his welcome address, describing the Mr Folorunso as one of the people who encouraged him to stay in the NYSC Scheme. “I grew up with him, and he has never stopped mentoring me. He’s one of the people I will never forget in my life” Alh. Riko announced.

“In this camp, we have 2,090 corps members with 1,030 Male and 1,060 Female. I am proud to say these are the best corps members I have ever had. They are law-abiding and disciplined,” Alh. Riko explained.

Speaking on the challenges bedevilling the orientation camp, Alh. Riko pronounced the urgent need for a befitting multipurpose hall, clinic, Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) Administrative Block, face-lift of toilet facilities, and repair of bunks.

Similarly, we have written to the Ekiti State Governor, His Excellency, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, in request for chairs, bunks and mattresses, and there is hope in sight that things will be done, Alh. Riko Stated.

Responding to the yearnings and aspirations of NYSC Ekiti camp under the watch of Alh. Riko Abdullahi Shuaibu, the renowned educationist and welfarist, Mr. Omotade noted that the construction of a new hall is sacrosanct, and he will do everything possible to convince the Governor. “I commended all the corps members for bearing with the Camp officials despite the challenges,” he added.

The seasoned counsellor who later encouraged the corps members to revoke the Aluta mentality, charged them to shun frivolous journeys during the service year and acquire a skill for their financial upliftment.

As the event wrapped up, the Director of Corps Welfare and Health Services doled out cash support to Members of the Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS), Quarter Guard Group, Man O’ War, Corps Camp Directors, Mr. Macho and Miss NYSC in recognition of their selfless service.
