By Akubulu Ngozi

The Labour Party, LP, Candidate of the 2023 Presidential Election, Peter Obi has faulted the ongoing demolitions in Lagos State, pointing out the impending hardship in the Country.

Obi made this known via his official X Account on Thursday.

According to him, the duty of a ‘responsive’ government under the current economic conditions of the Country, is to come up with measures that would help alleviate the hardships and take the people out of poverty.

More so, Obi, describing the time as a critical time for Nigerians, said that, the State Government should have considered the poor who are affected more by the economy, even if there are some violations in the building plans as claimed by the Government, adding that, the consequences are on the poor who are struggling to make ends meet with their little resources.

Describing some of the demolished properties as a life time savings and retirement abodes of the aged and incapacitated in the Country, Obi said that, the poor who are putting their meager resources are going through very severe financial stress that should not be multiplied further.

He therefore, appealed to the respective governments involved in the act to consider the hardship in the country and try to put a human face to their actions, with compassion for the poor.

Recall that, some buildings in Ikota, Lekki, Alaba, Ajao Estate, Abule Ado, Ladipo Market and other areas of the State were recently demolished by the Lagos State Government, with more threats to pull down more llegal structures on the drainage system.
