Rivers: Let person in charge be in charge – APC Chieftain tells Wike

By Udesinanna Stephen

As the relationship between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State crashed, the All Progressive Congress (APC) Chieftain Adamu Garba has said Wike should remain an advisory member when consulted and let the person in charge be in charge.

Garba said this recently via his X handle @adamugarba while commenting on the crash between the politicians.

ROUNDOFFNEWS gathered that, Wike’s continued effort to control the State even while serving as a Minister has been the alleged cause of the clash. It sparked recently when reports alleged that Wike is engaging in an impeachment plan against the Governor, seeing that he his not complying to his orders.

Advising Wike, the APC Chieftain said, “Remain an advisory member when consulted and let the person in charge be in charge. Government is a function of time. Once someone is in power, allow them to carry on with their responsibilities and avoid trying to pass overbearing influence on them.

“A recent lesson for us to learn is that of Nyesome Wike and Sim Fubara. My advice is, the best approach any outgoing governor can do is to choose the most competent of his team, campaign for and hand over to him, then hands off from the state entirely.” He added.

Recalling the Nigeria’s Governing altitude since democracy, he said, “Again and again since 1999, Governors try to hold on to control of their successors after their tenure, again and again, it never worked. I don’t know why they always try to do it.

“Eventually, competency comes with discipline, responsibility and understanding. A true competent person never forgets their benefactors.

“A truly competent person mostly remains humble and loyal to the cause. May peace and stability return to Rivers State and Nigeria at large.” He noted.
