Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Magistrate Court, sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos State has imposed N30,000 fine each or an alternative engagement in community service on 26 offenders for illegal disposal of refuse and violating the State’s Environmental Law.
ROUNDOFFNEWS gathered that, the offenders were arrested between the hours of 9.30 pm and 7.00 am by the Enforcement Team of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), in collaboration with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) for disposing refuse in unauthorised places at different locations in the State.
Sequal to this, the Managing Director of, LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said that, the action by LAWMA was in line with the zero-tolerance policy of the Administration of the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He said, “The era of recklessness and disdain for the environment is over. Anyone caught under whatever guise will be made to face the wrath of the law. The exercise is a continuous one.”
