The All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate in Saturday election, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, early Thursday declared that any government that wanted to succeed will not pay lip-service to the welfare of health workers.
Speaking at the secretariat of the Medical and Health Workers Council of Nigeria, Ekiti State chapter, where he met the leadership of Ekiti health workers, Oyebanji said he would look into the challenges facing health workers, especially as it related to prompt payment of salary, implementation of full CONHESS for local government, and implementation of elongation of some cadres at the state, among other issues.
Oyebanji described medical profession as one unique area of human endeavour that should not be politicised. He also promised to give issues related to deductions and payment of gratuity a special attention.
“There is a link between vibrant health sector and good government because we must be in good condition to be able to function well. I know many of the challenges facing Ekiti workers in this sector and I’m assuring them the time to address the issue is now. To me, it’s absolutely wrong and crime against humanity to politicised issues related to health workers because they are God’s representatives on earth, specially created to nurture and care for us,” he said.
President of the association, Comrade Oluwafemi Ajoloko, had earlier assured Oyebanji of their support, pointing out that the candidate’s background and experience in government was enough to convince them that he (Oyebanji) would do well.
