Following the emergence of Senator Godswill Akpabio as the Senate President of Nigeria, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP has moved for a reduction in Senate running cost and senators’ monthly allowance.
The commission who insisted on an urgent articulation of this proposal took to its Official Twitter Account @SERAPNigeria to disclose this.
According to the statement, the cost reduction is in a bid to actualize the commitment of the Senate President to guarantee the most effective use of the country’s common wealth.
It states, “We urge the Senate President, Mr Godswill Akpabio to immediately sponsor a resolution to cut the running costs of the Senate and monthly allowance of the Senators, consistent with his commitment to “guarantee the most effective use of our Commonwealth.”
