10th House Leadership Elections, Cross-partisan – APC

The All Progressives Congress, APC has described the 10th House leadership contention as a cross-partisan election.

This was disclosed in a statement on the verified Twitter handle of the ruling Party @OfficialAPCNg.

The election led to former Akwa Ibom governor Godwin Akpabio, APC, emerging Senate President of the 10th House after polling 63 votes with his Deputy, Senate Jubrin Barau, defeating Senator Abdul’aziz Yari also an APC member who scored 46 votes.

The APC with 57 Senators and the opposition collectively has 52 Senators, considering the contestants from the same party, coupled with results, shows a handshake across party line.

The statement reads: “Congratulations to the 10th National Assembly on the cross-partisan election of Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; Speaker, House of Reps, Tajudeen Abbas; Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin and Deputy Speaker, Ben Kalu. We wish the new leadership a successful tenure.”

Also, Tajudeen Abbas emerged as Speaker and his Deputy Speaker, Ben Kalu, with 353 votes out of 359 voters, defeating the now former Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Wase, and Sani Jaji , who polled three votes, respectively.
