SERAP Faults Tinubu’s Statement on “unnecessary Illegal Orders”

…demands clarification

By Akubulu Ngozi

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has faulted the President’s, Bola Ahmed Tinubu statement on “Unnecessary Illegal Orders” made while giving his Democracy Day Speech Yesterday.

The commission demanding for clarification to the statement took to its
Official Twitter Account @SERAPNigeria to make this known.

According to report the President was said to have asserted in his speech that, “It has become imperative to state here that the unnecessary illegal orders used to truncate or abridge democracy will no longer be tolerated.”

Following this, SERAP reportedly deduced the statement as opposing the tenants of the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary.

It states, “President Tinubu should clarify his statement that “unnecessary illegal orders issued to truncate or abridge democracy will no longer be tolerated.” It’s antithetical to the rule of law and judicial independence to describe any court order “unnecessary” or “illegal.”
